The Ridges protects 1600 acres of the most biologically diverse ecosystem in Wisconsin. Our ridge and swale complex provides a wide range of habitats that sustain a variety of plant and animal species. The Sanctuary is home to over 475 plant species, including the Ram’s-Head orchid and the Dwarf Lake iris. It also hosts the largest population of the federally endangered Hine’s Emerald dragonfly.
In recognition of this rich diversity, The Ridges Sanctuary has been designated as:
A National Natural Landmark (1967)
A Wisconsin Wetland Gem (2009)
In partnership with the Sanctuary, the Town of Baileys Harbor has also earned the Bird City Wisconsin designation.
