Learn about survival kits, signaling for help, safety, and shelter building. Then find a good spot to build a survival shelter!

June 27 • Wigwam Means “House”

Help tell a story using recreated musical instruments and then learn to build a real wigwam like the Woodland Indians of Wisconsin!

July 4 No Program

July 11 • Digital Camera Scavenger Hunt

Use our digital cameras or bring your own. Learn the basics of good picture taking and then go hunting with your camera!

July 18 • Skittering Critters

Use nets, buckets, hands, or feet to scoop up some macro-invertebrates at Peil Pond. It’s shallow, warm water so don’t be afraid to get your feet wet! Once you start looking, you’ll notice polliwogs, caddis fly larvae, whirligigs, diving beetles, and all manner of tiny skittering critters.

Geocaching has been described as a “high-tech treasure hunt.” After discussing what geocaching is, how it got started, and some of the tips and tricks, you’ll head into the woods to seek out caches hidden within The Ridges Sanctuary.

August 8 • TREE-mendous!

They’re all around us – and some are BIG! Join in some tree-mendous activities and learn some tree-mendous things about these important plants!

Pre-registration is required. Call the Northern Door YMCA at 868-3660 or The Ridges Sanctuary at 839-2802. Programs are limited to 15 people.

No Family Left Inside programs are a cooperative venture with the Northern Door YMCA and the Baileys Harbor McArdle Library. These programs are designed to encourage kids and families to get outside and enjoy nature. Program partially supported by the Door County Community Foundation’s Green Fund.
