May 21-23, 2009
Consider this your invitation to explore the rich natural history and unparalleled scenic beauty of the Peninsula ! There’s something here for everyone to enjoy: from sheer walls of dolomite to soft, sandy beaches; from delicate orchids harbored in dark boreal forests, to bright Trilliums in sun dappled woodlands; from winged warblers at Weborg to the song of Wood Frogs in the warming wetland waters.
The Door County Festival of Nature is a three-day program of guided field trips through some of Door County’s most unique and beautiful natural areas. Formerly known as the Wildflower Pilgrimage, this program has been expanded to focus on wildflowers, birds, insects and other conservation topics as well. The mission of the Festival is to cooperatively celebrate and promote the protection of Door County's natural landscapes and all its components.
Highlights of the 2008 Festival included:
- New field trips, including Woods at Monument Point, Meissner Preserve and Toft Point
- Canoeing and kayaking trips
- Expanded birding trips that include several different sites
- New programs on renewable energy
- Nature At Night field trips where you can listen to owls and frogs, learn about bats, and watch the night sky
- Keynote presentation by Dan Soluk, research scientist and expert on the federally-endangered Hines Emerald Dragonfly
- An old-fashioned Barn Dance and Social to wrap up the weekend's activities
