Self-Guided Hikes

Our campus is comprised of four distinct areas: Hidden Brook, the Sanctuary, the Family Discovery Trail and Logan Creek. All areas with the exception of Logan Creek are located in Baileys Harbor. Trails are easy to follow and well-marked. In the winter they are well-suited for snowshoeing, but are not groomed.

You can hike most of our trails year-round, dawn to dusk, for a modest fee. A $5 Day Pass applies to adults and includes access to Hidden Brook, the Sanctuary, Logan Creek and the Family Discovery Trail (open June – October). Children under 18 and Ridges members hike free.

Guided Hikes & Snowshoe Hikes

Our naturalist-guided hikes are the best way to experience The Ridges. Approximately 90 minutes in length, these relaxed walks highlight many of the features of the Sanctuary and are suitable for all ages. Learn about the history of the Ridges, the Baileys Harbor Range Lights, and of course the diverse flora of this unique natural area. On any given day, you’re likely to see carpets of wildflowers, nesting cranes, delicate Hine’s Emerald dragonflies, migrating Monarch butterflies or the occasional porcupine.

In winter, experience The Ridges in a whole different way: on snowshoes! These hikes with a Ridges naturalist cover the cultural and natural history of the ridges and swales in their “off season.” If snow cover is insufficient, the hike will be done without snowshoes. Snowshoe rentals are available from the Cook-Fuller Center for $5/pair. Download Snowshoe Rental Agreement
