Education
The Ridges is committed to providing education programs for both children and adults. Our goal is to increase the appreciation for our rich natural landscape and to foster connections with the natural world. We provide several programs, year-round, that are great for adults, children, and families. The Ridges strives to meet its mission of education and outreach.
Here are a few things going on right now!
Ridges Forest School
Learning in Nature - for Nature - about Nature
This educational program is designed for homeschool families who enjoy outdoor, hands-on learning. During this program students will hike through and learn from diverse ecosystems, journal, and make personal connections with the natural world. Students will witness seasonal changes, adaptations, lifecycles, and more throughout the school year. Our emergent curriculum is a student-led unstructured play that supports creativity, focus and attention.
21st Annual Door County Festival of Nature
2023 Festival of Nature Details are coming soon! Stay Tuned! Join Ridges Sanctuary in 2023 celebrating 21 years of “The Door County Festival of Nature”. Historically, the Festival of Nature has been a three-day experience held over Memorial Day weekend. Over 20 years, thousands of people have come to Door County to revel in the natural beauty of the Door Peninsula. To see the scope of our experience check out last year's guide.
Tiny Trekkers
This program is designed to create a foundation of love and respect for the natural world. Active play in nature between caregivers and children provides lasting impressions. Join a Ridges Sanctuary educator in gentle hiking, songs, and endless possibilities for exploration and experimentation. Class will meet at different locations on The Ridges properties each week, allowing trekkers and caregivers to explore new habitats.
