Family Discovery Trail Opens
The Family Discovery Trail and all Exploration Stations will open for the season Saturday, May 26th! Stations include bird blind building, butterfly catching, fort and bridge building, and bone digging among many other outdoor activities. Adventure backpacks are available along the trail. Stop by the Nature Center to learn more, then head out to the entrances located behind the Baileys Harbor Fire Department and across from the County Q and Highway 57 intersection. Open Daily Fee: $5 - Adults • Free - Under 18

The Woodland Fairies and The Big-Footed Troll ( Ages 5-8)
It is called The Woodland Fairies and The Big-Footed Troll. Oh no! The big-footed troll has accidentally squashed the enchanted village where the fairies, elves, and pixies live. The tree spirits will help you to find the village, but they need your help to rebuild and guard it until the fairies come home. Meet at The Ridges' Family Discovery Trail for this magical adventure. Family Program on the Front Lawn at the Nature Center featuring displays and live monarch caterpillars and butterflies! Learn all about monarchs and catch insects in the meadow! Live monarch butterflies being released every half hour starting at 10:30am. Rules are as follow: No tools allowed. Building materials will be found at the Ridges on the 29th and must be from non-living plants and trees. There will be materials in your designated building area or nearby. There will be a test to see if your fort could withstand a rainy day. $10 per family (max 2 adults, 4 children per unit, you can always split the family up and compete against each other!) Going on a Bear Hunt (Ages 2-5)
We are going on a bear hunt on the Family Discovery Trail! After reading the popular story, families will hunt in the wavy grass, deep cold river (stream), thick oozy mud, and the big dark forest to find a bear. Who knows what else we might find? Bring lunch and maybe a change of clothes for a teddy bear picnic in the red pines to end our morning. Each child will receive a bear to bring home as a memory…

Storytime with Nancy Hawkins
Join us on the Family Discovery Trail for a story time for the whole family! Retired librarian and experienced puppeteer Nancy Hawkins will use puppets to tell a folk story about animals who make a home in the woods.
